If you are entitled to have a flu vaccine.
You are entitled to a vaccination if you have COPD; CHD; Stroke; Diabetes; Asthma; Renal disease; Liver disease; MS; are immunosuppressed; are pregnant; over 65 years of age.
If you are not sure ask the doctor or nurse.
All new babies are invited for an 8 week check. You will receive a note from the Child Health department telling what date to attend for your baby’s immunisations and child’s pre-school booster. These are given by the Practice Nurses. On the same day we would like to also do mums post-natal check so that you don’t have to make another appointment.
Led by our Nursing team, this clinic offers advice and general health check-ups to patients diagnosed with diabetes. Patients are invited for reviews and annual health checks. A doctor usually sees patients after they have seen the nurse.
Our Nurses are also available for a wide range of health care and advice, for example, asthma care, advice on travel and family planning. Please enquire at Reception.
We also have the services of a Health Trainer.
We no longer have clinics here at the surgery. You will be seen by the Midwife at one of the Health Centres, who will arrange your booking and scans. We usually refer patients for booking for delivery at Royal Bolton Hospital, where scans and routine blood tests are also performed.
Tuesday mornings. Doctor is available for 8 weeks checks by appointments sent out by Child Health. Immunisations are given by the Practice Nurse and again these are by appointments sent out by Child Health. If these appointments are inconvenient another appointment can be made for another day.
Preschool Children. Immunisations for preschool children are carried out by the Practice Nurse. Invitations for all the routine immunisations are sent through the post. These are usually done at the Friday morning nurse led immunisation baby clinic. However if this time is not convenient, a different appointment can be made.
School Age Children. Routine immunisations are administered by the School Nursing Service (Tel 464570)
Adults. See the Practice Nurse for any immunisations.
For advice regarding contraception see the GP or either of our Practice Nurse's who have family planning training. Advice is of course confidential.
Methods of contraception offered by the practice include: barrier methods, the "pill" and injectables. The "morning after pill" is also available.
We do not fit IUCDs (coils) in the practice. These can be fitted at the local family planning clinics.
Contraceptive advice and services can also be obtained at the local family planning clinics detailed below. No appointment is necessary.

Results take 2 days. Alternatively the family planning clinics offer a more immediate test.
You may make an appointment to see any of the doctors by ringing the practice tel 01204 523813 or calling at the reception desk. You may also see the Practice Nurses by appointment, although they are often available without a prior appointment. Anything that you discuss with the doctor or nurse is of course confidential whatever your age.
Contraceptive advice, including the "morning after " pill is available via the Practice Nurse or doctor. Advice regarding contraception is also available from the local family planning clinics who run open access teenage advice clinics(see below).
Immunisations, travel advice (please make am appointment with the Practice Nurse at least 6 weeks before you wish to travel) and health checks are available from the Practice Nurses.
There is a counselling service in the practice (ask the doctor or nurse about this). However there are many other sources of advice and counselling locally (see Links page).

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to complete a travel vaccination form (1 per patient) and bring this to the surgery. The Practice Nurse will review the form to understand what vaccines are required for that country and will check your vaccination record to determine if vaccinations are required. Please call into the surgery for a form or you can print the form below, complete the information and hand to one of our receptionists.
It is important to make this initial enquiry as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as an appointment may be required with the Practice Nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Julie, District Nursing sister, is the leader of the team of District Nurses attached to the practice. She is supported by three staff nurses. The district nurses are based at Waters Meeting Health Centre (Tel 463020). The district nurses provide nursing care for people in their own homes. An evening and night service is available, details and contact numbers from district nurses.

The District Nurses also run treatment rooms for patients requiring changes of dressing, ear syringing, suture removal or certain regular injections. Appointments for all treatment room clinics are now handled by the Central Booking Service (tel 462626). The nearest treatment room is at Lever Chambers or Waters Meeting Health Centre where patients are seen by appointment. There are several other treatment rooms in health centres around the town, but unfortunately there is no treatment room at Halliwell at present.
Jane Mulligan is the Team Leader for the midwives attached to the practice. The midwifery team offer advice and care in the community and in the hospital during pregnancy, delivery and in the first few weeks after your baby is born.
